SALSA Antarctica 2016-2021

Antarctica Travel-8.jpg

For four years, Billy worked as a Multimedia Producer for the seminal SALSA (Subglacial Antarctic Lakes Scientific Access) project. Billy spent two field seasons in Antarctica documenting a team of scientists drilling 4,000 feet into the West Antarctic Ice Sheet to study the geologic history and ecology of an Antarctic subglacial lake.

During this time, Billy co-managed a robust trans-media outreach campaign with video as a chief focus. Billy was the primary creator of three short films, short social media videos, and was a Co-Cinematographer and Associate Producer for a feature length documentary.

Additionally, he built, wrote, and maintained the project website, photographed the project, co-managed the project’s social media channels, wrote and maintained the project’s blog, designed motion graphic animations, designed the logo, designed printed materials, created multimedia classroom lesson plans, and gave public outreach presentations. Likewise, Billy employed his love of music to create the score for the three short films and the feature length documentary.
